Cheetahs player tests positive for #Covid19─── MORGAN PIEK 08:37 Mon, 06 Jul 2020
A player from the Toyota Cheetahs returned the first positive Covid-19 case among active rugby players in South Africa.
OFM Sport is aware of the player's name, however, out of respect his name is being withheld from this article.
The player is one of the new signings at the team and reported for duty on Wednesday as his and other players' contracts started on 1 July.
On Wednesday the players underwent Covid-19 tests, and his test was the only one to return a positive result.
He also did not come into contact with any of the other players at the franchise, and those people who have been in contact with him have been informed.
At this stage, rugby franchises and unions are still awaiting a final go-ahead from the government in order to return to team training sessions.
A few weeks ago, a former Springbok at one of the other franchises tested positive, however, the second test a day later returned a negative result.
Meanwhile, just down the road from the Cheetahs, two of the VKB Knights players have also returned positive results.
Their names are also being withheld.
