New Zealand Rugby has rejected the idea of the SANZAAR being restructured which will in all likelihood spell the end of the Rugby Championship and Super Rugby as we know it.

New Zealand remains committed to the Rugby Championship which features the Springboks, All Blacks, Wallabies and Pumas, but it remains unclear if they are in favour a restructured Super Rugby competition.

Speaking to the media, New Zealand Rugby CEO, Mark Robinson, said that they remain committed to SANZAAR.

“From our point of view, SANZAAR remains a critical strategic partner.

“We're committed to the joint venture partnership.

“Like everyone and all things, Covid's had a massive impact on rugby, and therefore there are ongoing discussions with SANZAAR and all our partners around what the shape of that might look like in the future.

“As recently as Tuesday, we were re-confirming our commitment to that partnership going forward, noting issues that the world is changing obviously.”

Cheetahs MD, Harold Verster, has assured the various role players that they will remain in PRO Rugby.
