Steyn wants to measure himself against PRO14's best─── MORGAN PIEK 14:24 Tue, 14 Jul 2020
The new Toyota Cheetahs centre, Frans Steyn, looks forward to the midfield battle in the Guinness PRO14, when the competition resumes, with South African teams competing.
The two-time World Cup-winner is the latest in a line of solid centres to represent the Cheetahs in the PRO14, and these include the likes of Francois Venter, Nico Lee and Benhard Janse van Rensburg, but to name a few.
The PRO14 is known for its good midfielders such as the Irish trio of Stuart McCloskey, Garry Ringrose and Bundee Aki.
Steyn told OFM Sport that the one positives is that the PRO14 players aren’t as big as the centres in the French Top14.
“I think that it will be a good challenge for each guy because there are good players playing in the competition.
“It is a good opportunity.
“The one positive thing is that I don’t think the guys weigh a 120 or 130kgs and you have to tackle every weekend as in the Top14. The island boys are really big.
“Having said that, I am really looking forward to the challenge in the PRO14, and I want to prove myself.”
The 33-year-old Springbok has joined the Cheetahs on a two-year contract.
