The versatile backline player, André Swarts, is back at the Tafel Lager Griquas following a stint in France. The 25-year-old was abroad playing for Racing Club Narbonnais in the French Pro D2 league.

Swarts who mainly plays at flyhalf, is equally comfortable at inside centre, and his educated boot is of value to any team.

Earlier in the year, Toyota Cheetahs coach Hawies Fourie indicated that he will be making use of Griquas players again on loan deals.

Swarts told OFM Sport that he would love to measure himself for the Cheetahs in the Guinness PRO14.

“PRO14 wise, especially now with the Cheetahs contracting a smaller squad, I think that Hawies would get more Griquas players on loan to come and play there.

“Needless to say I will be open to anything if it comes my way.

“Super Rugby wise as well, if I get some at the Lions or a Super Rugby franchise I would be very keen because I want to improve my rugby in South Africa as well.”

It has been well documented that young South African players in particular struggle somewhat to cope in France, however, for Swarts he saw it as an experience of a lifetime and he learnt a lot about himself.

“France was incredible, it was an experience of a lifetime and I learnt a lot about myself.  No only rugby wise, but in life in general.

“Life is more than just rugby, you need to get life experience and you need to see the world. For me, I would recommend that any young player should experience France if they get the opportunity.

“It is incredible to see how they do things on the rugby field as in life in general. For me playing in Europe I learnt a lot. It’s cold, it’s wet and it was quite a learning curve.

It is believed that rugby has finally been given the green-light to resume team training as of Monday.
