Rugby teams across South Africa officially took the training field on Monday after receiving the green-light from the government.

It was the first time since March that team training has been permitted due to the global Covid-19 locked.

Fourie told OFM Sport that there were challenges, but they are happy to get the ball rolling again.

“We finished our first day back of training on the field with a rugby ball and I think that most of the guys enjoyed it.

“In groups of five it is difficult to do the things that you really want to work on, but it is good to get back and get a bit of handling and skills work done again.

“So, everyone is excited and we are satisfied with the first day of being back. On Tuesday we will have the backline players back on the field and we are looking forward to that.”

Meanwhile, SA Rugby will be addressing the media on Tuesday afternoon with regard to the future of South African teams’ participation in the Super Rugby, and the Cheetahs future in the Guinness PRO14.

The four Super Rugby teams could be set for an exit from the Super Rugby in order to join an expanded PRO16. Should this happen it could be at the expense of the Cheetahs and the Southern Kings who would have to sacrifice their place in the international competition.
