The newly signed Toyota Cheetahs hooker, Chucky van der Westhuizen, is all too happy be back in training at his new team.

The Namibian international hooker is no stranger to Central South Africa after captaining the North-West University Pukke in the Varsity Cup.

Van der Westhuizen is one of a whole host of new players at the team, and like everyone else, he is just hoping that they can start playing sooner rather than later.

Van der Westhuizen told OFM Sport that he is settling in nicely.

“It’s quite fun to be back in training on the field and in the gym

We’ve been doing some proper exercises in the gym and getting in the necessary running done on the field and getting used to the boots again.

“It’s quite difficult training in the masks, but we are just training in groups of five at the moment.

“So, I haven’t met all the players in the group yet. I did meet quite a lot of the forwards.

“It’s a fun place to be. I like the environment and it has been fun to mingle with some the guys a bit, and preparing for the Currie Cup. Hopefully, that will start sooner rather than later.

“It is quite nice in Bloem, but it was a bit cold at first. We are starting to settle in and enjoying every moment of it.”

If all goes according to plan, the Currie Cup will kick-off at the end of August with the final to be contested in mid-December.
