Cheetahs eager to resume full training─── MORGAN PIEK 14:00 Fri, 07 Aug 2020
The Toyota Cheetahs are eager to resume with their full team and contact training after the good news on Thursday that rugby matches in South Africa will be starting again soon.
This comes as the government has given the sport the long-awaited green-light start with matches again under strict conditions.
The major problem at the moment is that no players have taken any contact in close to five months and they will need to be conditioned.
Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that he welcomes the news, and they hope that by Monday they can start with full squad training.
“It is great news and we are all excited to get back on the field again and especially start with the contact full team training.
“I think we will still have to wait for another few days for clarity on when we will be allowed to get back to team training.
“Hopefully it will be on Monday or the Monday following that. It should be one of the two.
“Everyone will be looking forward to the Currie Cup and to get back to playing, so it is really good news for us.”
At this stage, 11 September would appear to date for the Currie Cup to kick-off.
