Lubabalo Dobela - Morgan Piek
The former University of the Free Shimlas and Free State flyhalf, Lubabalo Dobela, has netted a contract at the National Sevens Academy in Stellenbosch.

The backline general who represented the Junior Springboks in 2018 was a star performer for the Shimlas in the Varsity Cup, and last year he impressed for the Free State XV during the SuperSport Rugby Challenge.

Dobela has however been on the sevens radar for quite some time and was even linked with a trial last year already.

Dobela told OFM Sport that he could not turn down the opportunity at the Blitzboks.

“I was a bit frustrated that I didn’t get an opportunity with the Cheetahs, but that is life and I am ready to move on.

“I’ve got a huge opportunity here with the Blitzboks. I am ready to take it with both hands and I am actually really excited about it.

“I think I can come out of there as a truly improved player all-round, so I’m excited about it.”

Dobela will join on an initial contract of two years.
