Tredoux to take charge of Madibaz─── MORGAN PIEK 14:00 Wed, 19 Aug 2020
The former University of the Free State Shimlas assistant coach, Andre Tredoux, will be returning to South Africa. Tredoux is a true student of the game and one of the top scouts around and is known for discovering Springboks such as Lood de Jager.
He is currently still in Russia, where he is the head coach of the Slava Moscow, but he will be taking charge of the Nelson Mandela University Madibaz in the Varsity Cup.
Speaking to OFM Sport from Moscow, Tredoux, said that he is happy to be heading back home.
“Russia has been a really interesting experience, working with different nationalities and cultures, but it has been a good year and a half.
“Obviously with Covid-19 around it has been very difficult, as they pushed the league earlier and we also had quite a few positive cases.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge at the Madibaz after having coached especially at the Young Guns level and helping with the technical stuff at the Shimlas.
“The Varsity Cup has always been a competition that I have enjoyed and also working with students. A lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm, and just having a big influence on young men’s lives.
“We’ve got a quality coaching team gathered, and we are going to put everything into preparing the team as well as we can for the Varsity Cup.
“It will just be really good to be able to coach in South Africa again, close to my family. I’ve been stranded away from them, so we are really excited about the journey ahead.”
Tredoux previously also worked at the Free State Cheetahs and Paarl Boys’ High School under Peter Engeldow, who previously coached the Griquas, and was an assistant to Dawie Theron at Red Hurricanes in Japan.
