No injuries were reported in the Toyota Free State Cheetahs camp as the squad finally begun with their contact training on Monday afternoon.

In the morning the team still took to the training field in smaller groups following their week off from training. In the afternoon session, they started with a 20-minute contact session with the necessary precautions in place in order to prevent injuries.

However, there are a couple of sore bodies and one or two big hits were put in.

It was the first time since March that the team was able to take contact as they continue building towards their Currie Cup title defence.

Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that they will gradually increase the training during the course of the week.

“Yesterday’s session went well, and we only had about 20 minutes of contact training.

“The defenders were wearing bodysuits, so that helped with the impact a bit. There were a few huge hits made and you could see that guys were really eager to get back into contact training.

“On the attack side, there were some good things, but there were a lot of handling errors and a bit of over-eagerness.”

It is expected that the 2020 Currie Cup will kick-off on 10 October.
