The Cheetahs took a breather yesterday following two days of contact training in the warm conditions in Bloemfontein.

Tian Meyer, who lifted the Currie Cup trophy last year, told OFM Sport that they are chomping at the bit.

“We’ve had a productive start to the week by getting back to contact training. It’s been a couple of days where we’ve been getting stuck into each other.

“It’s been good fun, the spirits are high and the energy is high on the field. The contact brings a different dynamic to the training sessions.

“We have an off day today to rest our bodies and recover a bit, then we will get stuck in again.”

“The guys are obviously keen to play. That’s all we want to do as rugby players is get on the pitch and show what we can do.

“We just want to get on the field and play against other teams. You don’t always just want to train against each other.

“The guys are very excited about it.

“We got some dates out there, so very keen to play, and the energy is up.”

SA Rugby is yet to finalise the fixtures and the structures for the Currie Cup, but 10 October appears to be the date for the world’s oldest domestic competition to kick off.
