Mgijima, who represented the Cheetahs in Super Rugby, PRO14 and the Currie Cup, has been at the team from Mpumalanga for just about a year, but because of the global Covid-19 pandemic, he is yet to debut.

Mgijima told OFM Sport that he just wants to get back onto the park.

“From a player's perspective, it's another opportunity for all of us to showcase our talent.

“It’s been over a year for us. Preparing to play and then the pandemic hit.

“With us, our prep has been going quite well and I would say that we are almost ready to kick off this double-round Currie Cup.

“Playing against my former team will once again be a really great opportunity. I’ve been with the Pumas for quite a bit, but obviously haven’t been able to play a game, so playing against my former team would be really amazing.

“One should just take it step-by-step, and hopefully everything will pull through when we start playing again.”

The Pumas are set to face the Bulls next week in a warm-up again, while the Cheetahs in their turn will face their neighbours and old foe, the Griquas.

Draft fixtures indicate that the defending champions, the Cheetahs, will face the Pumas on 10 October in the opening game of the Currie Cup.
