Cheetahs sweating over Jaer─── MORGAN PIEK 06:52 Mon, 05 Oct 2020
The Toyota Cheetahs are sweating over the availability of the fullback, Malcolm Jaer, ahead of their opening match of Super Rugby Unlocked on Saturday.
Jaer was carted off of the field at Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday during the Springbok Showdown.
Jaer injured his knee during the clash and underwent a scan yesterday.
Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that Jaer is an important member of their upcoming campaign.
“His injury is a big setback for us. We have quite a number of outside backs that are injured. Rhyno Smith and Duncan Saal are injured, and now there is Malcolm as well.
“If will be a big blow if he can't train and play for us this week.
“They couldn't see any serious injury on the scan, but the knee is stiff and sore. He says it is a lot better than Sunday.”
Jaer will be seeing the Cheetahs medical team on Monday in order to assess the extent of the injury. They should have a clearer picture with regard to his availability in the afternoon.
Jaer was one of five Cheetahs players that played in the game which served as an old school Springbok trial game.
The other players that were in action included Frans Steyn, Luan de Bruin, Rosko Specman, and Junior Pokomela.
The flanker Oupa Mohoje was meant to play, however, earlier in the week he was withdrawn from the match after testing positive for Covid-19.
The Cheetahs tackle the Pumas on Saturday afternoon at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, and this game will kick off at 16:30.
