The Toyota Cheetahs fullback, Rhyno Smith, is still not available to represent the team in the Super Rugby Unlocked match against the Bulls on Friday. Smith injured his quad during a squad contact session last month.

Earlier Smith indicated that he was hoping to be fit and ready for this weeks’ big game in Bloemfontein.

The Cheetahs were worried about their depth in the back three at the beginning of last week, however, Malcolm Jaer, Rosko Specman and Clayton Blommetjies manned up against the Pumas.

Smith told OFM Sport that he is not quite ready yet, but he has a lot of faith in the guys that are in the starting XV.

“I’m improving every day and I’m probably a week away from being cleared to play, so I won’t be available for selection this weekend against the Bulls.

“The boys really did a stellar job right across the park from 1 to 23.

“The pack delivered and when you play with a pack that went forward like that, then us as the backs can smile all the way to the try-line.

“Malcolm (Jaer), Rosko (Specman), William (Small-Smith) and Clayton (Blommetjies) all did their thing this weekend.

“I was so stoked. I was a ball boy next to the field and happy to give whatever little bit of advice I could give, or what we were seeing from the touchline. It was cool to be a part even in a very small way.”

Hawies Fourie will name his team for the game on Wednesday afternoon, and Friday evening’s match at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 19:00.
