Lineouts a concern for the Cheetahs─── MORGAN PIEK 16:03 Mon, 16 Nov 2020
It’s the final week of the SuperRugby Unlocked series and anyone of the Bulls, Stormers or Sharks can win the competition.
For the Toyota Cheetahs the best they can hope for is to finish third in the standings, but that will require them to beat the bottom-of-the-log Tafel Lager Griquas, with a bonus point, and it will have to be by a sizable point’s margin.
Following their 30-13 defeat to the Stormers, the Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that their lineout on the attack is a concern.
In the past two weeks, the Cheetahs lost numerous lineouts on their own throw close to their opponent’s tryline, and Fourie added that this is something that needs to be remedied.
“We can’t be losing three or four lineouts a game. What’s most concerning to me is that most of them occurred when we kick a penalty into touch and then we lose the lineout five or ten metres from the opposition's goal-line.
“We need to capitalise on those opportunities because at the moment we are not doing ourselves any favours.”
Saturday’s derby between the Cheetahs and Griquas in Bloemfontein kicks off at 16:30.
