The Toyota Cheetahs may have some welcome news regarding Luan de Bruin ahead of this weekend's SuperRugby Unlocked derby against the Tafel Lager Griquas.

Last week during the 30-13 defeat to the Stormers at Newlands, the in-form tighthead prop left the field with an injured bicep.

It would appear that De Bruin does not have a torn bicep, but it is a sensitive spot. The Cheetahs are expecting to have more clarity on the injury on Tuesday.

An insider at the Cheetahs told OFM Sport that he won’t play if he will be at risk of further aggravating the injury.

“It does not look too bad. At first, they thought that he tore his bicep, and then it sounded like it was just a bit of stretch, but it is at a sensitive place.

“He might still go for a scan or go see the doctor. If he is going to be at risk of tearing the muscle off, he won’t play.

“There should be another update on Tuesday morning.”

The weekend’s game is set to be De Bruin’s last for the Cheetahs before he heads to the Leicester Tigers and then Edinburgh.

Saturday’s derby between the Cheetahs and Griquas at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:30.
