The winless Griquas came agonisingly close to their first win last week, only to stumble at the death against the Sharks.

It is a derby between the two teams and one thing history has taught us about this fixture is that it always provides for some thrilling rugby.

Griquas coach, Scott Mathie, told OFM Sport that they took a lot from their game last week.

“It’s a big derby game and obviously the Cheetahs are the massive favourites being at home and with all of their star players.

“I think we took a lot of heart and energy from the Sharks game although it was agonisingly close.

“A lot more think went better for us on the weekend and I can see that there have been improvements, which is great for us.

“We’ve just got to continue that process against the Cheetahs. We know that we are going to be up against it. We know that they are a very dynamic team with a lot of tempo and speed.

“These are things that we are going to need to address and make sure that we can curtail that a bit.

“We also have a couple of plans of our own to really make sure that we get into the game. We know that it going to be a tough encounter, but we are excited about it.

“We are going to take a lot of positivity and energy into the game this week.”

Saturday’s derby at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:30.
