De Bruin ruled out for Griquas derby─── MORGAN PIEK 17:22 Tue, 17 Nov 2020
The Toyota Cheetahs prop, Luan de Bruin, has been ruled out of this week’s SuperRugby Unlocked derby against the Tafel Lager Griquas in Bloemfontein.
De Bruin injured his bicep during last week’s game against the Stormers at Newlands in Cape Town.
The Cheetahs were hoping for some good news regarding the injury, however, the prognosis was not positive and he will miss this week’s match.
The injury also means that he won’t be played in a Cheetahs jersey again as he has been released by the franchise.
Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, confirmed to OFM Sport, that De Bruin sustained a grade one tear to his bicep.
“Luan has got a grade one tear in his bicep, so he won’t be available for this week’s game against the Griquas.
“The Stormers game last week was his last for us.”
Fourie will be naming his team for the derby on Thursday afternoon and at this stage, it would appear that Khutha Mchunu could be making his first start for Cheetahs.
This could also mean that Hencus van Wyk might be brought onto the bench for what would be his Cheetahs debut.
Saturday’s derby between the Cheetahs and Griquas at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:30.
