Smith back for Griquas derby─── MORGAN PIEK 13:42 Thu, 19 Nov 2020
The Toyota Cheetahs have made several changes to their side which will face the Tafel Lager Griquas on Saturday in the final round of SuperRugby Unlocked.
Upfront, Hencus van Wyk will start at tighthead prop for his debut, while Boan Venter starts at loosehead prop.
In the backline, Rhyno Smith returns from injury and will run out on the right-wing, while Howard Mnisi starts on at inside centre.
Jacques du Toit comes back on the bench, while Cameron Dawson is on debut as well.
The captain, Junior Pokomela, is in doubt for the game due to a recurring wrist niggle, and if he cannot play, Aidon Davis will start on the side of the scrum.
This will also mean that Carl Wegner takes over the captaincy of the side, should Pokomela not recover in time.
Coach Hawies Fourie told OFM Sport that he is delighted to have the dynamic Smith back.
“Rhyno scored ten tries in thirteen PRO Rugby games and that was the most in the competition.
“He is an exciting player and trained really well over the past two weeks. He has got that x-factor and he reads the game well. I am delighted to have him back.
“He just adds a bit of extra attacking ability to our back three.”
Saturday’s game at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:30.
