FS Cheetahs prepare for set-piece battle at Loftus─── MORGAN PIEK 15:26 Mon, 30 Nov 2020
It’s back to business this week for the defending Currie Cup champions, the Toyota Free State Cheetahs.
During round one which was completed this weekend, the Cheetahs enjoyed a first-round bye, but face a tough challenge this week with the team having to travel to tackle the Blue Bulls in Pretoria.
The last time these two teams met the Cheetahs beat the Bulls 19-17 in Bloemfontein and the assistant coach, Charl Strydom, told OFM Sport this weekend's game in the capital city will be all about the set-piece.
“The Bulls are all about territory and the set-piece. They don't really want to play in their own half.
“Then they have a really strong kicking game that the two flyhalves control really well. Marco van Staden and Duane Vermeulen are two of the best fetchers on the ground in the competition.
“We managed them well in Bloemfontein when we played them in the SuperRugby Unlocked.
“We played in areas where they didn't really want to play in and we pressured them with our defense.
“It's going to be about the set-piece.”
The Bulls and the Cheetahs go head-to-head at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon, with kick-off at 16:30.
