The North-West University Eagles will be targeting a better breakdown when they tackle the University of the Free State Shimlas tomorrow night in round two of the Varsity Cup in Pretoria.

While the side from Potchefstroom did manage a 47-28 win over the Madibaz on Monday, they were exposed at the breakdown.

The Eagles coach, André Pretorius, told OFM Sport that their breakdown needs to improve immediately.

“The one thing that everyone is going to have to work on is our work at the breakdown.

“All the teams are very tough at the breakdown and if your ball carriers aren't getting you over the gain line and making yards, the ruckers work becomes very difficult.

“Our breakdown work has to pick up immediately.”

The Shimlas in their turn did a lot of playing in their over 22 during their 28-28 draw to the University of Western Cape, and this is no doubt an area where the Eagles will target the Bloemfonteiners.

This intervarsity game between the Eagles and Shimlas at Loftus Versfeld kicks off at 19:00.
