The Central University of Technology Ixias are geared for their toughest block of matches in the Varsity Cup.

It all starts on Thursday when they tackle the tough Wits, before having to tackle both Maties and the Ikeys.

The Ixias are unbeaten after three rounds and will look to extend it to six games.

The Ixias tighthead prop, Janu Botha, told OFM Sport that the Witsies captain, Constant Beckerling, knows how to charge up his troops.

“We are playing Wits first with Constant Beckerling as their captain who is always igniting a fire between his teammates.

“Then we go on to face Ikeys who are also undefeated, and the Maties who are the former champions.

“We do know it's going to be a tough week, but we also see it as a challenge and an opportunity as CUT to play against the big teams and beat the big teams.”

Botha also stressed that reaching the semi-finals is more important than topping the table.

“We most important thing is to get into one of those semi-final spots and then work yourself into the final.

“Obviously you want to end at the top of the log and you want to win as many games as you can.

“We are rugby players and there is a form of pride that goes with it.

“Our goal is to end at the top of the log, but getting into the semi-final is the most important thing.”

Thursday afternoon’s game on the Tuks B field kicks off at 16:00.
