The new Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, has named Cedomir Janevski from Macedonia as his assistant.

Janevski, who has been living in Belgium for the best part of 30 years will be the first assistant to Broos, while he is yet to name a South African as his second assistant.

Janevski is currently the head coach Olympiakos Nicosia FC in Cyprus, and will guide his team in the cup final next week.

As a player, Janevski was an international defender for both the former Yugoslavia and Macedonia.

Broos said that language and experience won’t be a problem for Janevski.

“My assistant will be Cedomir Janevski and he is not here at the moment, he is still in Cyprus, where he will be in the cup final next week.

“He's from Macedonia but was staying for 35 years in Belgium, played in Belgium at Club Brugge, and he talks English, French and Dutch so there will be no problems for language or experience.”

Broos added that qualifying for the World Cup will be the mission, but warned that it will not be easy.

“It's been more than 10 years since South Africa qualified for the World Cup.

“That shows how difficult it is to qualify for the World Cup in Africa. And it will be tough for South Africa. But don't be angry about that.”

Broos will be heading back to Belgium at the end of the month for his second Covid-19 vaccine and will miss next month’s international friendlies. Janevski and the second assistant will take charge of these games against teams that are yet to be named.
