Brandon showed us glimpses of what he can do - Fourie─── MORGAN PIEK 14:00 Mon, 31 May 2021
The Toyota Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, is fairly happy with the first outing of their new flyhalf, Brandon Thomson.
Thomson represented the Cheetahs for the first time on Saturday during their somewhat surprising 43-35 defeat to the Invitational XV in Bloemfontein.
Thomson, who joined the Cheetahs from the Glasgow Warriors in February, scored a brace of tries on Saturday.
Fourie told OFM Sport that Thomson is a work in progress.
“There is one of two things that we will need to work on and fix.
“With the intercept pass which led to Richard Kriel's try, he wanted to pass to the wrong guy and it wasn't in the playbook.
“That is the way the game went. We made too many mistakes, but Brandon showed us glimpses of what he can do, and we will work on the stuff that needs improvement.”
On Saturday the Cheetahs will tackle the Leopards in Potchefstroom in their second warm-up match.
Meanwhile, the Cheetahs are set for a first round bye in the Currie Cup which is set to kick-off on 19 June.
The Cheetahs first opening match will be a week later when they travel to Kimberley to tackle the Tafel Lager Griquas.
The Cheetahs first home game is scheduled to be on Wednesday, 30 June, against the Bulls.
