The Toyota Cheetahs loose forward, Junior Pokomela, is expected to make his long-awaited return this week for the Currie Cup game against the Pumas in Bloemfontein.

Pokomela has sufficiently recovered from his wrist injury he sustained in November last year.

The Cheetahs do have a couple more Covid-19 cases and this will test their depth in certain departments.

On Monday morning, more Covid-19 tests were conducted and this led to a few more positive cases.

The Cheetahs assistant coach, Charl Strydom, told OFM Sport that Pokomela and some other loosies are available for selection.

“In the centres we are a bit depleted. Some of the forwards are back, especially Junior.

“It's great to have him back. He has been out injured a while and he will be able to play this week.

“Jeandré Rudolph and Aidon Davis are back as well.

“It's nice that we are finally getting some guys back.”

The Junior Springbok captain, George Cronjé, is also back from Stellenbosch where he played in the U20 International series against Argentina, Uruguay and Georgia. It is believed that he will have to undergo a fitness test as he is carrying a slight niggle.

Last week the Cheetahs conceded four points to the Bulls because of the Covid cases within the camp. This resulted in the Cheetahs being unable to field a full front row for the game against the defending champions.

Friday's match between the Cheetahs and Pumas at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:00.
