Cheetahs beat WP for back-to-back wins─── MORGAN PIEK 08:24 Thu, 22 Jul 2021
The Toyota Cheetahs recorded their second straight win in the Currie Cup on Wednesday night by beating Western Province 38-21 in Bloemfontein.
Duncan Saal, David Brits, Ruan Pienaar and Cohen Jasper all scored tries for the bonus point, while Pienaar landed two conversions and four penalties.
Evan Roos scored a brace for Province, while Thomas Bursey dotted down for a consolation try after the full-time hooter sounded.
The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that he is satisfied with his team’s effort.
“It was really for us to get log points and especially with home games, we cannot afford not to win our games at home.
“The loss against the Griquas put us under pressure at the beginning of the competition.
“The way we played is really satisfying; the way we defended and then scored tries from the turnovers that we created with our defence.
“Then we also put pressure on their kicking game.
“Hats off to the boys, it was a great effort from everyone.”
The win has seen the Cheetahs move off the bottom of the log, but they have a short turnaround before hosting the Sharks on Saturday. The good news for the Cheetahs is that the Springbok winger, Rosko Specman, will be available for selection.
Fourie will name his team for this game on Friday morning.
Saturday’s match at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 14:30.
