The British & Irish Lions prop, Kyle Sinckler, has been cited for biting during the 2nd Test against the Springboks in Cape Town.

The incident happened in the 64th minute of the Springboks' 27-9 win over the Lions to level the series.

Footage shows the Springbok lock, Franco Mostert, looking at his forearm following a ruck.

World Rugby confirmed that they are busy reviewing the matter.

“British and Irish Lions player Kyle Sinckler will attend an independent disciplinary hearing after he was cited by Scott Nowland (Australia) for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.12 (biting) during the 64th minute of the second test against South Africa in Cape Town on 31 July, 2021.

“Sinckler will attend a hearing via video conference before an independent Judicial Committee chaired by Adam Casselden SC (Australia), joined by former international players David Croft and John Langford (both Australia) on 3 August.

“Following a full review of the match, there are no additional citings.”

Should Sinckler be found guilty he will have a heavy suspension. His fellow Lions, Stuart Hogg, Maro Itoje and Duhan van der Merwe, can consider themselves lucky to escape the citing commission.

Hogg allegedly bit Willie le Roux, while Itoje was clearly caught playing his knee on the throat of Damian de Allende on two occasions, while Van der Merwe put in a spear tackle on Pieter-Steph du Toit, which forced the big flanker to leave the park.

On the Springboks side, Cheslin Kolbe, could have also been reviewed for playing Conor Murray in the air. He received a yellow card for the offence in the Test, but many are of the belief that he should have been shown a red card.
