Griquas expect different Cheetahs for derby─── MORGAN PIEK 08:32 Tue, 17 Aug 2021
The Tafel Lager Griquas are wary of the Toyota Cheetahs ahead of Wednesday’s Currie Cup derby in Bloemfontein.
The Griquas are still in contention for the semi-finals, but it will require three solid performances against the Cheetahs, Western Province and Pumas.
The Cheetahs in turn will be desperate to chalk up a victory in order to keep their outside chance of making the play-offs alive. The Cheetahs will need good results against their neighbours, as well as, against the Pumas and Bulls.
The Peacock Blues captain, Ruan Steenkamp, told OFM Sport that their 31-10 win over the Cheetahs in round two counts for nothing.
“We are excited for Wednesday.
“We beat the Cheetahs in the second round of the competition, but they are definitely not the same side they were back then. It's going to be a battle and it's a very important one for us.
“For them it will also be very important because they are also still in the running. So, it will be an important game for both teams.”
The Griquas are battling with injuries to key players and they included the in-form and impressive Sharks-bound winger, Eduan Keyter.
The outside back Enver Brandt and the tighthead prop Janu Botha are also doubtful for the match.
Wednesday’s derby at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 16:45.
