Pienaar more than happy to play flyhalf─── MORGAN PIEK 09:12 Fri, 20 Aug 2021
The Toyota Cheetahs captain, Ruan Pienaar, is more than happy to continue playing at flyhalf if it is required.
Pienaar, who has played in the pivot role for the Springboks, took over the position halfway through Wednesday’s 33-32 win over the Griquas.
This was due to Reinhardt Fortuin picking up a hamstring niggle.
If Fortuin is not fit for Saturday’s Currie Cup game against the Pumas, Pienaar could cover the role again.
Pienaar said he has always enjoyed playing in the number ten jersey.
“I've always enjoyed flyhalf as well.
“I've played and trained there quite a bit as well and I know that I cover there if there is an injury when we have a six-two split on the bench.
“I know what my job is and that helps quite a lot.
“What also helped is that the forwards made a big step-up. I thought our bench that came on made a big difference.”
Hawies Fourie will be naming his team for the clash on Friday morning, and Saturday’s game between the Pumas and Cheetahs in Nelspruit kicks off at 11:45.
