Pumas target Currie Cup double against the Griquas─── MORGAN PIEK 15:00 Wed, 25 Aug 2021
The Pumas are expecting nothing less than a tough day at the office when they face the Tafel Lager Griquas on Saturday in the Currie Cup.
The game in Kimberley is effectively a quarter-final and both teams will be desperate to secure their spot in the semi-finals.
The Pumas and Griquas have battled it out in knockout rugby many times over the past number of years and they know each other well.
The last time the two teams met the Pumas beat the Griquas 26-22 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
The Pumas captain, Pieter Janse van Vuren, who also lead the Peacock Blues, told OFM Sport that it will be a tough outing.
“It's a big one for us this weekend. It's essentially a quarter-final and there is no way that we want to put our future in another team's hands. It's in our own hands and it's up to us to make sure that we pull this one through.
“You don't want to end up after this game hoping that someone loses or anything else that is out of your control.
“It's never easy going to Kimberley, especially at this time of the year, but we know what to expect. The Griquas are coming off a good win against Western Province.
“It's going to be a tough one and we are preparing well for it. Hopefully, if everything goes according to plan and we can execute everything that we need to we can return home with a win.”
Saturday's game at Tafel Lager Park kicks off at 14:30.
