Human's successor close to being appointed | News Article
Pote Human - Bulls

The University of the Free State could be naming their new head coach this week. Last week the Shimlas conducted a round of interviews with the three candidates that were shortlisted to possibility replace Pote Human.

Human has joined the former Bulls and Springbok coach, Heyneke Meyer, at the Houston SaberCats in the USA.

It is believed that a replacement for the late Dougie Heymans could also be appointed this week, and the name of a former Springbok assistant has been mentioned.

Earlier the Shimlas informed OFM Sport that they want a coach that will be actively involved in the recruitment of players to carry the team forward.

Since the Shimlas famously won the Varsity Cup in 2015 under the guidance of Franco Smith they have experienced lean years and making the semi-finals has been a real grind.

Meanwhile, the Central University of Technology Ixias are also in the process of appointing a new coach after Pieter Bergh was named as the Griquas head coach last week.

Bergh’s assistant, Tiaan Liebenberg, is the obvious choice to take over the role, however, the name of the Toyota Cheetahs assistant, Melusi Mthethwa, has been mentioned. Whether or not Liebenberg would be interested in taking over the role remains to be seen.

The former Springbok and Stormers hooker does coach at school level as well, while also operating a family business.

Earlier CUT informed OFM Sport that the process to replace Bergh has begun.
