The Springboks have been dealt another blow heading into Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks in Townsville.

The Springbok eighth-man, Jasper Wiese, has been cited following his yellow card in the 78th minute of last week’s 30-17 defeat to the Wallabies in Brisbane.

The former Toyota Cheetahs player was giving his marching order by referee Matthew Carley following a TMO decision that pinned Wiese for a dangerous cleanout to the head and shoulder region of the Wallabies centre, Samu Kerevi.

While the force of Wiese’s cleanout will come into question, he did still make contact and there were very little mitigating factors that came into play.

Upon further review of the match footage, the citing commissioner deemed the incident had met the red-card threshold for foul play.

Wiese will appear before a judicial panel comprising New Zealand sports lawyer Michael Heron QC (chair), Helen Morgan, and Chris Smith.

The video conference hearing will start on Tuesday at 10:00am (South African time).

Meanwhile, the Springboks are set to name their team for the Test at 11:30 on Tuesday.
