Steyn is set to earn his 73rd cap for the Springboks, but he is set to become the first player in the history of the sport to don the green-and-gold for a period that spans 15 years.

Following his man of the match performance against Wales last week, it did come as somewhat of a surprise that he will be playing off the bench again.

Nienaber said Steyn epitomises what it means to be a Springbok.

“Playing international rugby for 15 years is an extraordinary achievement and what makes this feat even more remarkable is that Frans continues to show his class despite being at the twilight of his career.

“His influence is equally valuable off the field and it is fantastic to have a player of his calibre guide the young players in the squad.”

Saturday’s Test between Scotland and the Springboks at Murrayfield kicks off at 15:00.
