Bafana beat Zim, Ghana draw─── MORGAN PIEK 08:21 Fri, 12 Nov 2021
Bafana Bafana remain at the top of Group G of the FIFA 2021 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but more importantly have a three-point cushion.
On Thursday night, Bafana beat Zimbabwe 1-0 at the Football FNB Stadium thanks to a 26th-minute goal by Teboho Mokoena.
South Africa have one foot in the next round of the qualifiers despite the Warriors pushing them hard right up until the final whistle. That being said, Bafana did also hit the woodwork on a few occasions.
This win moved South Africa up to 13 points with one game remaining in the group, and that will be against Ghana on Sunday.
Over at the Orlando Stadium, Ethiopia and Ghana played to a 1-1 draw.
This means that even if Bafana and Ghana draw on Sunday in the Cape Coast, South Africa will advance to the next round.
Ghana will need to beat South Africa by three clear goals on Sunday in order for the Black Stars to advance at the expense of Bafana.
While the Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, was happy with the win, he was not satisfied with his team's performance.
“I was happy that we won, but I was far from satisfied with the performance. I think we played against an opponent that was more aggressive than us and I really didn't recognise my team in this game.
“I don't know why I couldn't recognise them and if we were more unfortunate, we could have lost points and they could have scored.”
Sunday's qualifier between Ghana and Bafana in Cape Coast kicks off at 21:00.
