The Toyota Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, has lauded the efforts of the flyhalf, Siya Masuku, following the win over the Sharks in the Toyota Challenge.

Masuku, who was contracted as a flyhalf, has mainly played for the Cheetahs at inside centre, but lately has started to reclaim the number 10 jersey.

Against the Sharks, he had his first real test as the backline marshal when he went head-to-head with Boeta Chamberlain.

Fourie told OFM Sport that Masuku is starting to gain confidence in the pivot role.

“He is giving direction to our team and for me his kicking game is his strength.

“He doesn't shy back on defence as well. They ran in his channel quite a bit as well with Ben Tapuai who is an international player, and he stood his ground.

“He made a lot of good tackles.

“He is growing in stature every week. That's sort of the distinction between good and great players, is the amount of time that you've got to execute whatever you decide to do.

“In the whole game Siya was under pressure just once where he kicked a little bit of a bad kick, but the rest of the time he had everything under control and he ran the show for us.”

On Friday, the Cheetahs will be up against Baia Mare at the Toyota Stadium.
