The former Springbok tighthead prop, Jannie du Plessis, is back in training with the Lions ahead of their United Rugby Championship game against the Cardiff Blues.
Du Plessis and his wife tragically lost their son recently and he has been on compassionate leave.
The Du Plessis’s son will be laid to rest later in the week in a private ceremony on the family farm.
The Lions CEO, Rudolf Straeuli, confirmed that Du Plessis is being given time off.
“Jannie came to training yesterday (Monday) and like I said, as a squad we are very close to Jannie and his family.
“We are giving him and the family enough space and assistance to deal with it.
“I don't think we will be involved with the team for this coming Sunday, but he might be at the game.”
The Lions and the Cardiff Blues will battle it out at Ellis Park on Sunday afternoon at 16:00.
