The Toyota Cheetahs made it two wins from two in the Currie Cup with convincing 38-25 win over the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday evening.

The Cheetahs scored six tries as they collected a valuable bonus point on the road.

The hooker, Chucky van der Westhuizen, scored a brace of tries, while Rosko Specman, Clayton Blommetjies, Aidon Davis and Andisa Ntsila all dotted down as well.

The Cheetahs flyhalf, Siya Masuku, was masterful in leading the backline and his clever play led to the tries by Specman, Blommetjies and Ntsila.

His performance earned him a well-deserved man of the match and he no doubt announced himself as the number one flyhalf at the union.

Aidon Davis, who is a regular loose-forward, played in the second-row due to the lock crises at the Cheetahs. Davis has long been earmarked to play in the second-row, and he proven that he can play in the position and do so outstandingly. His big ball carries and speed gave the Cheetahs an advantage of technically having four loose-forwards on the park.

The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that while they bagged five points there are a lot of work-ons.

“There were a lot on mistakes at the lineouts with skew throws by the hookers, but I'm proud of the way forward pack handled themselves tonight. We are a bit thin in the tight five, especially with Rynier Bernardo's injury. We had to move Aidon Davis from loose-forward to lock and he slotted in really well and did his job.”

“We all feel that we can play a lot better. We made a lot of mistakes that we will have to cut out if we want to beat the Pumas in Nelspruit in two weeks’ time.

“We have a lot of hard work to do, but it is difficult with the games so far apart. We last played on 15 January and that was 18 days between games, so three weeks without any competition. You train against bags and try and overload the defence in an attempt to simulate what you're going to get in a game.”

The Cheetahs next game in the Currie Cup is on 19 February against Pumas in Nelspruit.
