Stoney out for three months─── MORGAN PIEK 09:55 Wed, 16 Feb 2022
The Tafel Lager Griquas captain, Ruan Steenkamp, is confident of making a return to the field before the end of the Currie Cup.
The influential loose-forward has been ruled out of action for up to three months after sustaining a knee injury against the Pumas in Kimberley.
Steenkamp has undergone surgery and will begin with his rehabilitation in the coming weeks.
Steenkamp told OFM Sport that his is optimistic about his recovery.
“I'm positive about the injury because it could have been worse and hopes to be back on the field of play in the not-too-distant future.
“We will take it day-by-day. At this stage it is just a little physio and getting rid of the swelling and stuff like that.
“Hopefully I will start with my rehabilitation in two weeks’ time, but for now it's a matter of taking it day-by-day.
“But, as I’m very positive about it and hopefully I will get to back on the field for the end of the Currie Cup.”
The Griquas will host Western Province on Friday evening in round four of the Currie Cup.
