Whitehead returns for Sharks clash─── MORGAN PIEK 14:59 Mon, 04 Apr 2022
The Griquas have received a massive boost ahead of Wednesday’s Currie Cup game against the Sharks in Durban.
The seasoned flyhalf, George Whitehead, is fit and has been selected to play in the game and it will be his first outing of the season.
Fiela Boshoff, who has covered at flyhalf of late, drops out of the match 23.
Whitehead has been out of action ever since the Griquas faced the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein in a warm-up again a week before the Currie Cup kicked off in January.
The Griquas coach, Pieter Bergh, told OFM Sport that he backs Whitehead for the important game.
“He brings us something else”, said Bergh about the return of Whitehead.
“Fiela Boshoff did really well at flyhalf while George was injured and obviously Zander du Plessis at 12 did a lot of kicking duties.
“But in all honesty, I don't think they are at the same level as George when it comes to kicking out of hand.
“Even kicking at goal over the last few years, time-and-time again, George has been one of the top point scorers in the Currie Cup.
The last time these two teams met was in the second round when the Sharks edged the Peacock Blues 24-23 at Kings Park.
Wednesday’s game in Kimberley kicks off at 17:45.
