The Bulls still top the standings in the Currie Cup following the latest round of matches over the weekend.

The Bulls fended off a determined Griquas team on Saturday to move back up to the top of the table with a 48-38 win at Loftus Versfeld.

At Ellis Park in Johannesburg, the Toyota Cheetahs fought back to beat the Lions 35-26 to remain unbeaten in the competition.

The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that they need to make a step-up if they are to win the Currie Cup.

“We conceded quite a lot of penalties and points again,” said Fourie following the game on the Highveld.

“We had a hard talk at half-time and the effort and the execution was a little bit better in the second half but still not good enough. Even in the second half it was not good enough.

“I'm not satisfied with the quality of our game.

“We will work hard in the coming weeks and we've got to lift our standards.”

Meanwhile, at Kings’ Park the Sharks chances of hosting a semi-final was severely dented when they lost 20-10 to the Pumas.

The Cheetahs will have a much tougher outing on Saturday in Bloemfontein when they welcome the Sharks to the Toyota Stadium.

Saturday’s match between the Cheetahs and Sharks in Bloemfontein will kick-off at 14:30.
