It is in our hands - Bergh─── MORGAN PIEK 14:04 Tue, 17 May 2022
The Griquas will settle for nothing less than a win when they tackle the Toyota Cheetahs in Kimberley next week in the Currie Cup.
There is a lot at stake for both teams in the derby with the Griquas hoping to secure a second successive semi-final, while the Cheetahs goal is to finish at the top of the standings after already having secured a home playoff.
The Griquas do have the Pumas breathing down their necks, while the Sharks are also gunning for a top-four spot.
The Griquas coach Pieter Bergh told OFM Sport that only they can control their destiny.
“I told the players that it is in our hands,” said the astute coach.
“We mustn't bank on the Sharks or the Pumas to lose matches.
“It is in our hands and if we win two of our remaining matches we should be in the playoffs. If we win all three, we will definitely be in the playoffs.
“We mustn’t try and get our teams to do us favours, we must do ourselves favours.
“We must focus on winning our next game and that is against the Cheetahs.”
Next week Saturday’s game in Kimberley kicks off at 14:30.
