The SA Rugby Academy (Junior Springboks) are expecting nothing less than a tough outing when they tackle the Toyota Cheetahs on Thursday in Bloemfontein.

For the Baby Boks it will be their second outing this week after losing 38-21 to a very strong Griquas outfit on Monday.

Sacha Mngomezulu started in the number ten jersey on Monday and he was also the captain of the team.

The Junior Boks could opt to start Jean Smith at flyhalf on Thursday. Smith is the son of the Springbok flyhalf and former Cheetahs coach, Franco Smith.

While the young Smith didn’t spend a great deal of time on the park, he did show glimpses of why he is held in high regard.

The SA under-20 coach, Bafana Nhleko, told OFM Sport that they are happy with Smith’s progress.

“He is a 19-year-old and he is learning, said Nhleko.

“He is obviously making the step-up from high school, but we are quite happy with him.

“He is somebody that we have identified through Grey College and our EPD program.

“I think that he is only going to get better. Today he had a couple of nice touches and there were also moments of high school decision making, but that is part of his learning process and we are very excited about him.”

Thursday’s hit-out at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 12:00.
