It’s a big week in the Currie Cup for the Toyota Cheetahs and the Griquas with the two sides going head-to-head on Saturday in Kimberley.

The central derby will be a big game for both teams with the Cheetahs looking to continue their momentum in the competition while the Griquas are in a battle to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

The Cheetahs still trail the Bulls by a single point, but they do still have a game in hand on the team from Pretoria.

The Griquas in their turn are fourth on the log, but they have pressure to the Pumas, who trail them by a single point in fifth.

Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that the Peacock Blues will be tough nut to crack.

“There games between the Griquas and the Cheetahs over the last two years have become closer-and-closer.

“They beat us the last time we played in Kimberley and we want to rectify that. They are not afraid of anyone on the other side so that also makes it close encounter.

“The Griquas have a lot to play for because they are in a battle for the 3rd and 4th sport with the Pumas and Sharks.

“We on the other hand are in a battle with the Bulls to get the top spot in the log.”

Saturday’s derby in Kimberley kicks off at 14:30.
