On Saturday the two-time World Cup winner limped off the park with an injured hamstring earlier in the bruising 46-18 defeat to the Griquas in Kimberley.
Steyn is set to be out of action for this week’s game against the Pumas in Bloemfontein, as well as their final round-robin match against the Bulls.
The Cheetahs assistant coach, Charl Strydom, told OFM Sport that Steyn should be fit and ready for semi-finals.
“It looks like he might be out for three weeks, but he should be good to go for the semi-finals.
“Knowing him, he is a fighter and he would want to be a part of this. He has been a part of the squad for the last two years. I think that's the one trophy that might have eluded him over the years. He has world two world cups, but he definitely hasn't won the Currie Cup with the Free State.
“It's the one place that he can win one will. We just see what it meant to Ruan Pienaar when we won it in 2019.”
Friday’s match between the Cheetahs and Pumas at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
