Masuku geared for return against the Bulls─── MORGAN PIEK 15:23 Thu, 09 Jun 2022
The Toyota Cheetahs flyhalf, Siya Masuku, is set to make a welcome return to the park on Saturday in the important Currie Cup game against the Bulls in Bloemfontein.
Masuku missed out on playing last week during the 29-28 defeat to the Pumas due to illness.
The backline marshal has been a standout player for the Cheetahs, especially during the first half of the competition.
Last week the Varsity Cup Player of the Year, George Lourens, made an unexpected debut for the Cheetahs following a late injury to Reinhardt Fortuin while he was practicing his kicks off goal.
While Lourens had a solid debut the more experienced head of Masuku who help a lot in their cause of seeking a full-house of five points in the game.
Masuku, who has enjoyed less game time in recent times, told OFM Sport that he is ready and keen to go.
“I'm good and well,” said the pivot.
“I'm just happy to play with the guys again and it's always great to play against the Bulls. To play at home makes it even better.
“There are a lot of young guys and guys that want to play. They just want to swing the ball around and play. The coaches are giving us an opportunity to express ourselves on the field.”
Clayton Blommetjies could also start at fullback, while there is a possibility that George Cronjé could play off the bench.
Hawies Fourie will name his team to play on Friday morning.
Saturday’s game at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 17:45.
