The Stormers and the Bulls will make history on Saturday night when they face each other in the final of the United Rugby Championship. While there is silverware up for grabs the final has extra spice with it being a North-South derby.

The two teams are the first finalists of the competition with it also being the first time ever that a South African derby will be played in the final of the European tournament.

The last time these two sides met in the final of an international competition was in the 2010 Super Rugby final when the Bulls beat the Stormers 25-17 at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

During the round-robin games of the URC, the Stormers beat the Bulls in Cape Town and in Pretoria.

The Stormers coach, John Dobson, said the final feels like a proper North-South derby.

“It feels like a normal Stormers versus Bulls game,” said the coach who has dedicated his life to rugby in the Mother City.

“Just the pride of that game means so much to us that trophy is almost incidental in this case.

“It makes us want to win it more. Neither team would want to see the other team lift the trophy. “But it feels like a Stormers versus Bulls game for us.

“It's a proper bagging rights South African derby. That's how it feels. I think it would be different if we were playing against Leinster or someone like that.

“There is some much riding on this game in terms of the rivalry and history.”

Saturday night’s big final at the Cape Town Stadium kicks off at 19:30.
