Otto remains a concern for the Griquas─── MORGAN PIEK 07:33 Tue, 21 Jun 2022
The Griquas will make a call on the fitness of their captain, Niel Otto, for the Currie Cup final later in the week.
During their 30-19 semi-final win over the Bulls in Pretoria the flanker left the park with a suspected concussion.
Otto is, however, not preparing with the team at the moment as he is attending to a family bereavement in George.
Early indications were that the player is fine, however, the assistant coach, Barend Pieterse, told OFM Sport that Otto still needs to be cleared.
“He did some of the concussion exercises and we haven't really had any feedback.
“Yes, we hope that he will be ready but at the moment we are preparing for the worst-case scenario where he won't be ready. Obviously, we need to have other plans in place for that.
“As we are talking now, he hasn't been cleared to play.”
Should Otto not be declared fit to play in the final it is expected that the centre Sango Xamlashe will take over the captaincy.
Saturday’s Currie Cup final between the Griquas and Pumas in Kimberley kicks off at 15:00.
