Xamlashe named as Griquas captain for #CurrieCupFinal─── MORGAN PIEK 12:50 Thu, 23 Jun 2022
The centre, Sango Xamlashe, will captain the Griquas on Saturday when they host the Pumas in Kimberley in the final of the 2022 Currie Cup. Xamlashe takes over the captaincy from Niel Otto who has not been cleared.
In the second-row, Cameron Lindsay earns a start, while Werner Gouws takes Otto's spot on the side of the scrum.
In the backline, Stefan Ungerer will start at scrumhalf, while the seasoned George Whitehead will jog out at fullback.
Xamlashe told OFM Sport that he will be banking on the leadership group in the team.
“There is a lot of experienced individuals in our team and I do share the responsibility with our leadership group as well. There are a lot of experienced campaigners and journeymen that have done this before.
“I don't really feel that there is too much on my plate and nothing that I can't handle.
“It helps that I have been in a final as a captain already. This is obviously a different kind of magnitude of pressure.”
In 2021, Xamlashe, captained the University of Pretoria Tuks to the Varsity Cup title.
Saturday’s final in Kimberley kicks off at 15:00.
