Nienaber excited about 2nd Test loose-trio─── MORGAN PIEK 10:39 Wed, 06 Jul 2022
The Springboks will be banking on the experience of Pieter-Steph du Toit in the loose-trio on Saturday when they face Wales in Bloemfontein.
Du Toit makes a welcome return to international rugby after not playing at the highest level since the 1st Test against the British & Irish Lions last year.
Marcel Coetzee also makes a welcome return to the green-and-gold after being in the international wilderness for several years.
The Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber said the pair will help calm the nerves of the debutant, Evan Roos.
“It is a very exciting loose trio,” said Nienaber.
“Pieter-Steph and Marcell are very experienced and you will have them calming the nerves, and the form player from the United Rugby Champions in Evan will be feeding off them.
Then you also have another player in great form in Deon Fourie coming on to add something extra. “This is a very exciting loose trio and I think you will find just as exciting combinations throughout the team.”
The added bonus of having Fourie is the team is that he is a natural hooker, and if the needed arises he can easily slot into the role.
Saturday’s Test at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 17:05.
