Biggar wary of 'second-string' Springboks─── MORGAN PIEK 07:49 Fri, 08 Jul 2022
The Welsh captain, Dan Biggar, has rubbished the idea that the Springboks are being disrespectful by selecting a so-called second-string side for Saturday’s second Test in Bloemfontein.
The Boks made 14 changes to their starting XV and six players will be on debut in the Test.
The legendary Welsh scrumhalf and captain Gareth Edwards criticised the move by Jacques Nienaber and called it disrespectful. Edwards also called on the Welsh to give South Africa a real ‘tonking’.
Biggar feels that this Boks side may indeed be the more in-form and match ready team.
“What you've got in the South African back division are very decent players in their own right. They weren't just handpicked and chucked into the game.
“When you put a lot of good players together, under a very good coaching staff that SA has, they're going to be organised and switched on.
“They're also in-form players, so I don't see the fact that they haven't played together much, will be an issue.
“It'll all start up front and, if we can put them on the backfoot from a half-back perspective, we'll be at a slight advantage.
“If we don't, we'll be bulldozed a bit and we'll give them a bit of an easy day, and the continuity issue won't be a problem with the kind of players they have.”
Saturday’s Test at the Toyota Stadium kicks off at 17:05.
